Hi there,

We are seeking a singer for our covers project: We're in our 30s & 40s so experienced, mature and not looking to conquer the world - fun is top of the agenda, but we also want to put a decent package together and be selective about the gigs we do and make them good quality.

THE PLAN:

We are a drummer, guitarist and bassist recently formed so it's still taking shape and if you join us early on, you get to help shape the project. We don't even have a name yet.

We take pop songs and convert them to rock/hard rock - we figure a good song is a good song whatever the genre. We're looking at basically any pop song that isn't guitar based so no Stereophonics or Kings of Leon - covers that have been done to death (AVOID!)

There's loads of references points on YouTube and examples of what we'd be aiming for (like a say a good tune is a good tune):

Sweet Nothing (Calvin Harris) as covered by BeKnight

Locked out of Heaven (Bruno Mars) as covered by The Parade

Careless Whisper (George Michael) as covered by Seether

Rolling in the Deep (Adelle) as covered by Black Stone Cherry

Papa Don't Preach (Madonna) as covered by Kelly Osbourne

These are pop songs so they are challenging songs to sing. You're going to need a decent voice. A lot of these have a female vocal so a female singer may be more appropriate but we are open to a male singer. We appreciate that not everything will suit your voice and we will need to base the songs and set around your vocal. Doubtless we'll need to transpose songs as part of this. We'll work that out to make it work for you and it can sound it's best.

We're pursuing a covers project because:

a) punters will know the songs, so are instantly more accepted and crowd pleasing than original content. Easy to get gigs and perhaps paid work (not essential).

b) easier to practise to and get everyone up to speed quickly and everyone on the same page since we all know what it's meant to sound like (essential for musicians with limited time together for rehearsal).

c) avoids having to write from scratch which takes forever and I've done it, many times - no interest in that kind of slog - just want to have some fun without giving our lives to it.

COMMITMENT:

One 2-3 hour rehearsal a week and 1 gig a month. It's all about quality not quantity and the expectation is everyone should turn up to rehearsals knowing the songs so we can play them together, not learning them at rehearsal (practice is for home). Rehearsals are in the evening on a weeknight: usually a Wed night. We are in North East Kent and tend to practise near Whitstable or Westgate on sea. The project is ready when it's ready but with a singer we think it'll be quicker to get a set together and we won't waste time learning songs that won't work with the singer we pick.

If you think this project is for you, please get in touch via private message leave your number to call and discuss. Please share any demos if you have one.

Thanks for reading.
