Bassist Available - For Fun Projects (new ska band?)
I’m a bassist and sound guy with plenty of experience, most recently as part of a ska band called The Jumpstarts.

Sadly, that chapter has come to an end, so I’m looking to start or join something new and exciting! While I’d love to create a new ska band, I’m also open to exploring soul and funk. The main thing is playing music that gets the crowd moving and loving every second. (So, if your focus is nailing that obscure B-side solo you learnt in your bedroom, we might not be the best fit!)
The original idea for my last band was to create a setlist where the crowd wouldn’t even notice when we transitioned from Trojan, to 2 Tone to a modern cover arranged for ska; we’d always sound like us. While we did lose our way on that a bit, the one constant was keeping it fun. I’d love to continue this idea.
I’m based between Epsom and Wimbledon, so it would be great if we’re all somewhat local; no one wants to add unnecessary barriers like long commutes when being in a band can be hard enough already!
I’d love to meet up with singers, guitarists, drummers, keyboard players, trumpet players, saxophonists, trombonists, harmonica players, and percussionists. And honestly, if you play kazoo, tambourine, melodica let’s talk!
That said, there has to be a certain level of technical ability. You don’t have to be a virtuoso, but being tight and able to play your part well is essential, great music and great fun go hand in hand!
In addition to playing bass, I handled the band’s online promotion, video and sound editing, provided pretty much all the gear, and managed sound engineering at gigs. I even built and repaired equipment when needed.
I primarily play a Fender Jazz or Precision Bass and use Markbass amplification, though I’ve recently been going ampless and running direct into the PA. Speaking of PAs, I’ve got one! Along with a modern mixing desk, stage monitors, mics, mic stands, and pretty much everything a band could need for rehearsals or gigs.
